STROLLING WITH GEORGIA O'KEEFFE | TRAVEL GUIDE NYC
What a glorious summer we are having here in New York City! Yes, its hot. But I like the heat. I am a native New Yorker but this city girl sure does love the great outdoors. Not much beats long walks in the grass, surrounded by the shades of trees and birds telling stories I wish I understood.
One of my favorite spots in New York City is the New York Botanical Garden located in the borough of The Bronx. I love her quietness. I am joyfully overwhelmed by her massive beauty that gently surrounds me. I appreciate what she gives - endless flowers and plants and herbs from far off places with so many stories to tell - without asking for anything in return.
I come her sporadically and usually to check out the moving exhibits. Today I wandered through the World of Plants to discover flowers from Hawaii that inspired a series of paintings by world-renowned American artist Georgia O'Keeffe. The paintings are housed in the library on the grounds. It was great to see her oil on canvas - my favorite paintings were her depictions of the Hawaiian mountains. I loved its fluidity. She masterfully gives life and character to these mountains.
There are so many wonderful events happening during the summer at the NYBG! I strolled through the farmers market and sat through a class partnered with Whole Foods and the Garden highlighting the importance of farm to table. The pesto was magic, I will share the recipe with you this weekend my friends.
I hope that wherever you find yourself this summer, that you take the time to explore, explore, explore!
